The Gaucho in our crew! Nacho studied Business Administration in Buenos Aires and knows his way around surf breaks all over Latin America, Indo & Fiji. A keen explorer, he also had a couple of waves in the Maldives, Morocco, Europe, NZ, OZ & Easter Island! Nacho's favorite surf destination is the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia; however, he will provide you Stormrider guide-like knowledge on any of the dreamy surf areas he manages. Our LUEX in-house barista always makes sure he helps people with anything that might contribute to their best surf vacation ever.
"We stayed at Chicama for a week and can’t wait to return. Staff was always nice and helpful, meals were good, especially traditional food was great."
"Leaving the place with great memories and new friends. Great :)"
"The walk down to the local spots is roughly 8 minutes. Big choice of rental boards. Highly recommendable for a trip with a limited budget. We have enjoyed it a lot!"
Loooooong waves is the thing I will remember the most about Chicama. That was a real cool surf experience. Might go back next year! :)
The small coastal town of Puerto Chicama, in North-Western Peru, is home to the longest wave in the world. It’s perfect. A 2.2 kilometer left-breaking monster of glass and sheer beauty awaits you. When that swell hits the shallow waters near Chicama, it forms a wave so long you actually cannot see the wave in its entirety as it wraps around each bend in the escarpment. Did someone say BUCKET LIST?
One of the best things about surfing in an underrated surf destination like Peru is the fact that there are plenty of uncrowded locations to be slayed. Pick a month and you will be guaranteed to find a distinct lack of people. A quick meander from your accommodation will leave your jaw dragging along the crisp sand as you wonder where everyone is. It’s perfectly pristine and it’s waiting for you.
It should come as no surprise that the country has produced world-class surfers who compete on the international scene every single year. If you are patient enough, you could attempt the record of Peruvian Cristobal del Col, the surfer who made 34 turns on Chicama, the longest wave spot in the world!
Picture a day out on Peruvian waters, nailing wave after memorable wave. You come out from the surf, board in hand and sit on a nearby chill spot, admiring Lisas (a type of local fish) leap out of the water in the pursuit of prey. Now, like the Lisas you require food, so you head to one of the many beachside restaurants where you find an infinite variety of seafood options and even more ways to have them served! We are talking about causas, ceviches, and Pisco. And legend has it a cold cerveza Cusqueña after a day of demanding surf is just what the surf doctor ordered!
