The Gaucho in our crew! Nacho studied Business Administration in Buenos Aires and knows his way around surf breaks all over Latin America, Indo & Fiji. A keen explorer, he also had a couple of waves in the Maldives, Morocco, Europe, NZ, OZ & Easter Island! Nacho's favorite surf destination is the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia; however, he will provide you Stormrider guide-like knowledge on any of the dreamy surf areas he manages. Our LUEX in-house barista always makes sure he helps people with anything that might contribute to their best surf vacation ever.

Be Aware

Costa Rica is generally summed up in 2 words; “PURA VIDA”. That’s right, life is sweet in the small-ish Latin American country and given that Costa Rica is one of the safest countries in the area, tourism has been booming in recent years. On the down side; surf tourism has been booming too and popular beaches can get a little crowded during peak season. Unless, you have the LUEX crew in your corner who can hook you up with the best local partners to take you to pristine Costa Rican waves without the head count in the lineup.

What our customers say

"This is an awesome camp. The location is real cool, just a few steps away from the surf spot. And surf conditions are suitable for all kinds of surfers. It is truly a sanctuary. I surfed, practiced yoga and ate healthy for the entire stay and came back home with fully charged batteries."

Raymundo
(Blue Surf Sanctuary)

"...The owners, Bruno and Uli, are wonderful, and the surfhouse is brand new and really comfortable. Dino the chef cooked amazing gourmet dinners every night. The surf at Playa Hermosa is also great for all levels, and the surfhouse is secluded enough that you will see monkeys every morning at breakfast. I will definitely be back!"

Bonnie
(Early Bird Surfhouse)

"Everything was the best!"

Alessa
(Rumbo Surf Lodge)

"Costa Rica is great!Waves are perfect!"

Why you should spend your next surf holiday in Costa Rica

01

Perfect surf all year round in Costa Rica

One thing that you can bet on is the predictability of the surf in Costa Rica. You can stop in at any time of the year, just remember your board! South West Pacific swell activity is known to happen year round, even with smaller but consistent energies coming in the so called "off season". If you want to surf bigger in the West Coast in the S-SW "off season", there are spots working with the North West direction. And, for a change, the Costa Rican Caribbean Coast is available at certain months of the year and will catch any activity thrown at her.

02

Costa Rica is one of the happiest places on Earth

According to the Happy Planet Index (which aims to measure human well-being and environmental impact), Costa Rica is one of the most satisfying places in which to live. You will literally be heading on the world’s happiest surf adventure!

03

You can sleep in an airliner

As if spending the day atop the finest waves on the planet wasn’t thrilling enough, you can get your kicks sleeping in one of the quirkiest places around, a re-purposed airplane! The 727 Airplane Jungle Fuselage home overlooks the Pacific Ocean and Manuel Antonio National Park and is nestled beside the rain forest. It sits 15 metres above the ground, and has been decorated using local teak wood, and has a wood-paneled fuselage. So if you're searching for some extra exitement next to your surf, Costa Rica is perfect for you!

04

Explore the beauty of the country beyond the great waves

As being graced with incredible waves isn’t enough, Costa Rica is also incredibly beautiful on land. The country boasts an incredibly rich ecosystem that features an impressive amount of flora and fauna. Scout the many rainforests and national parks and get a glimpse of exotic animals like the Tapir, the Peccary or even Jaguars and Ocelots living in some of the most beautiful surroundings you can find in Central America.

05

Stand at the feet of giants when you are not surfing

While you may have braved the mountain like waves of Limon on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, nothing will prepare you for a day exploring the dozen or so volcanoes in Costa Rica, including Arenal, which is 5,358 feet high.

06

Public transport in Costa Rica is excellent

If you’re keeping count of your cash your best option is to use the public transportation, and more specifically, the bus system, especially for longer treks. Walking, cycling and motorbike transport along with hitchhiking (exercise caution of course) around is common practice for visitors and locals alike. The benefit of taking a bus is twofold; it’s super cheap and you can kick back and take in the scenery. Of course, the common transportation is getting a rental car for your stay - and if you need one, we can help woth that!

07

Costa Rica is a country full of adventures

The chances are that you are going to get your hair wet for most of your time in Costa Rica but if you feel like a day away from the ocean and its incredible waves, then there are plenty of things to do. From zip lining in the rainforest to chasing waterfalls and ATV riding, the world is your oyster when it comes to adventurous things to do in Costa Rica. It’s not just all “full throttle” though and there are plenty of relaxing wellness options or Yoga retreats, close to most surf spots, in case you want to slow down life for a bit.
